World Milk Day

Friday, June 1, 2018

World Milk Day was established in 2001 by FAO (the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations).

Milk has all the characteristics required to contribute to feeding the world population in a fair and sustainable way. Dairy cow farming has always given millions of people in the world the chance to survive. In fact, a good 750 million people earn their livings thanks to dairy farming. Milk is the most common drink on the planet, after water. In the light of this, it is clear that we are talking about the most global drink in the world, to which the present and the future of the inhabitants of the Earth are most greatly bound. This has also been recognized by FAO in their article/report which highlights how milk and dairy products improve the condition of life and the health of the inhabitants of the world, from the developing countries to the richer ones.

For more than 15 years, SOP has stood alongside farmers worldwide to ensure that the production of this indispensable drink becomes more and more sustainable; from the reduction of fertilizers and the reduction of nitrates in the feed, to the reduction of gas emissions in the barn and from the pits, SOP wants to improve the environment and the living conditions of man and animals.

Move forward with SOP, towards Sustainable Intensive Agriculture, which allows the improvement of milk quality and quantity, whilst respecting the needs of the workers and animals, in the search for environmental, social and economic sustainability.
