SOP Lagoon

SOP® Lagoon is a powdered additive for the treatment of the liquid manure of dairy cows. It helps the farmers with the management of liquid manure, dissolving any crusts or sediment, keeping it fluid and reducing/eliminating the need for agitators. Furthermore, it reduces the formation and emission of odors, ammonia and GHGs from the stored manure, as well as that spread on the fields, and improves the fertilizing properties of the liquid manure.

The results, from studies carried out at both the University of Milan and the University of California at Davis, indicate that SOP Lagoon is the only additive in the world capable of simultaneously reducing emissions of ammonia and GHGs such as methane, nitrous oxide and carbon dioxide, without accumulating nitrates in the liquid manure.

Scientific research published between 2019 and 2023, in collaboration with the University of Milan and UC Davis in California, has confirmed the effectiveness of SOP Lagoon in reducing emissions by up to:

- 80% methane

- 75% carbon dioxide

- 100% ammonia

- 100% nitrous oxide

Furthermore, the empowered capacity to influence microorganisms results in a reduction of crust and sediment and an improvement in manure fluidization, as well as a reduction of odor and a reduction in the attraction of flies.

A specific test carried out by UC Davis has also confirmed a significant reduction in odor.

It is, therefore, possible to improve the sustainability of liquid manure management :

• Economic sustainability for the farmer, limiting agitation, spreading and fertilization costs

• Environmental sustainability, reducing the use of synthetic fertilizers, the risk of nitrate leaching into ground waters and GHG emissions

• Social sustainability, limiting ammonia and odor emissions, precursors of fine particulate formation.

  • reduction of greenhouse gas emissions (carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide)

  • reduction of crust formation and crop scorching during spreading

  • conversion of the nitrogen into a form that is more assimilable for the crops.

SOP Lagoon - instructions for use

Application instructions and doses:
Mix the product with water and pour directly over the slats, in the receiving pit or in the main storage pit. If it is not possible to use SOP LAGOON directly in the main storage pit, it is enough to use the product under the slats or in the receiving pit: the product will flow into the main storage pit with the manure.
In the case of floating crusts, the product should be poured through a tube, for the first few interventions, so that the it gets down below the crust (see scheme). In this situation, it is recommended to lower the flow shutters of the liquid manure pit until a good level of fluidization has been obtained.
If the product is not currently in use, an activation phase is necessary.
To be mixed with liquid manure, suitable for all types of crops.

Dosage:
2 g (0.07 oz) per week for every head supplying manure to the pit, receiving pit or under the slats.

Activation (first 4 weeks):
In addition to the regular dosage, add 4 g (0.14 oz) for every m3 of stored liquid manure, per week. In the case of large volumes of liquid manure, SOP LAGOON ACTIVATOR can be used for the activation phase.
